How to Install Upper Engine Torque Strut Mount for Ford & Mercury EM-4066
Strut mounts connect the strut assembly to the vehicle body, allowing the strut to pivot during steering while isolating road noise and vibration. Worn strut mounts cause clunking over bumps, steering wander, and uneven tire wear.
- DANGER: Strut springs are under extreme pressure - always use a proper spring compressor
- Never remove the center strut nut without compressing the spring first
- Improperly compressed springs can cause serious injury or death
- Get a wheel alignment after strut mount replacement
Installation Steps
Safety & Preparation
Raise vehicle and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel. Do not disconnect ABS sensors unless necessary.
Disconnect Strut
Remove the brake line bracket, sway bar end link, and steering knuckle bolts (if applicable). Support the strut.
Remove Upper Mount
From under the hood, remove the upper strut mount nuts. Lower the strut assembly out of the vehicle.
Compress Spring & Replace Mount
Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring. Remove the center nut and replace the strut mount.
Reassemble & Install
Install new mount, release spring compressor slowly. Reinstall strut assembly in vehicle. Torque all bolts to spec.

- Ball joint separator
